BILL: SB1325

(As of 2/23/2021)

*** SB 1325 Held in Committee After AzCA Members Flood Senators with Emails! ***

Thanks to the swift action yesterday by AzCA members like you, Senate Bill 1325 was held in committee; meaning that it did not have enough support and not brought to the Appropriations Committee for a vote.
This is a WIN for our profession today, but we must not let our guard down.

AzCA will be monitoring this particular bill and any others that may be introduced. AzCA is your partner in advocating for the counseling profession in Arizona.

Vote NO to Conversion Therapy in AZ

The addition of a revised SB 1482 as an amendment to SB 1325. This is nothing but another shrouded attempt to allow dangerous "conversion therapy" to continue, with no regulation or disciplinary consequences.

We stand with the American Counseling Association's stance on licensure and conversion therapy:

1) Licensure boards play a vital role in ensuring patient safety and validating counselor education and experience.

2) We oppose conversion therapy because it does not work, can cause harm, and violates our Code of Ethics.

It is an attempt to treat something that is not a mental illness. SB 1482 was voted against just last week. Please vote NO AGAIN on SB 1325. This is bad and harmful legislation for Arizona constituents.

AzCA Position: Against | Vote No

Senate Bill 1482 will change licensure requirements for counselors in the state of Arizona. AzCA is against this measure as it will open the door for unqualified individuals to the practice and could expose patients to potential harmful situations. Without proper and regulated licensure, the door is open for individuals to abuse the system and patients. It takes many years of education to obtain the proper credentials to become a licensed therapist or counselor. AzCA does not want patients engaging with unqualified individuals with no professional training in the mental health field. We are requesting that state senators vote NO on this harmful bill.
